Everything rises.

In Ascent, Di Nicolantonio abandons the horizontal spread of the earlier Futuropia Cities works and drives the composition vertically a single tensile spire erupting from a low-slung base, its lines converging upward with the urgency of something reaching for atmosphere. The structure does not taper into a point; it unravels, its upper mass dissolving into a tangle of lines that could be cables, branches, or the building thinking out loud.

A monumental leaf occupies the foreground left not background, not context, but subject. Nature here is not the setting for architecture. It is its equal, its interlocutor, its scale reference. Two small figures stand at the base of the spire, barely visible, rendering the whole composition suddenly, vertiginously tall.

This is sacred architecture without religion a structure whose only faith is verticality itself.
