KyumiX-3
About the work
She is not falling. She is letting go.
KyumiX-3 is the most unexpected figure in the Futuropia Robots universe an android in a posture the engineers never programmed. Head bowed, eyes closed, one arm extended downward with the unhurried grace of a dancer mid-phrase, a long stream of synthetic hair caught in a wind that exists only around her. Nothing in her design specification accounts for this moment. And yet here she is, in it.
Di Nicolantonio draws the Kyumi lineage at its most paradoxical: a machine built for precision and purpose, discovered in a state of pure suspension. The articulation is immaculate every joint, every panel, every mechanical detail rendered with the fluency of an artist who has spent time understanding how bodies, biological and synthetic, distribute weight and intention. But the emotional register belongs to something the engineering cannot explain.
Is this rest? Is this grief? Is this what a system does when no task is running and no instruction is pending and something call it processing, call it feeling turns inward?
KyumiX-3 is the most human robot Di Nicolantonio has yet drawn. Which raises the question the entire Robots series has been building toward: at what point does the distinction stop mattering?
The most poetic work in the Futuropia Robots series.
