Stella-2
About the work
She was designed for two worlds. She belongs to both.
Stella-2 is the second figure in the Stella lineage a robot conceived for deployment across the full range of human civilisation, from the dense urban environments of Earth to the pressurised habitats and open regolith plains of Mars. The helmet architecture reflects this dual mandate: angular, structural, built to interface with both atmosphere and vacuum, its sensor cluster calibrated for environments where human perception alone would not survive.
The posture is one of quiet readiness. Not the predatory tension of KyumiX-2, not the introspection of KyumiX-3 something between the two. A figure that has assessed its environment and found it manageable. One hand visible at the lower frame, fingers slightly extended, the arm angled back in the compact geometry of a body that has learned to occupy space efficiently, because on Mars, space is never free.
Di Nicolantonio draws Stella-2 at the intersection of aerospace engineering and humanoid design the proportions are athletic, the mechanical detail precise, the face retaining just enough human geometry to register as companion rather than tool. This is intentional. The robots that will accompany humans to Mars will need to be trusted. Trust requires a face.
Stella-2 is a portrait of the first generation of interplanetary androids built on Earth, made for elsewhere.
