Mycelium
About the work
Nothing here stands alone.
In Mycelium, Di Nicolantonio constructs a city as a single continuous organism domes, platforms, and curvilinear volumes threaded together by a web of structural arteries that pulse through the composition like roots, like veins, like the underground networks that sustain every living forest. No building begins where another ends. The whole thing breathes as one.
This is the most biologically honest work in the Futuropia Cities series. Where earlier pieces proposed architecture that coexists with nature, Mycelium proposes architecture that operates like nature distributed, redundant, resilient, without hierarchy or centre. The dome on the left sits with the self-contained authority of a spore. The upper canopy spreads with the patient ambition of something that has been growing for decades.
Di Nicolantonio's line work reaches its most intricate register here. The pen never stops moving. Neither does the city.
