The Elder
About the work
This one has been here the longest.
In The Elder, Di Nicolantonio distills the entire vocabulary of the Futuropia Cities series into a single vertical form a great twisted trunk from which disc-like platforms have grown outward over what feels like centuries, each level a different era of inhabitation, each ring of structure a decade of slow organic expansion. The surrounding trees do not frame it. They defer to it.
There is something totemic here, something pre-urban. Before Verdania became a city, before the networks of Mycelium spread beneath its streets, before Solstice found its equilibrium there was this. A single structure that decided to grow, and never stopped.
The sketch quality is deliberate and honest. This is not a finished building. It is a living thing caught mid-growth, and Di Nicolantonio has the wisdom not to resolve what nature has not yet resolved.
The origin point of the Futuropia universe.
