Advent
DN — WARDROBE — Collection 02
About the work
It is already on its way. It has been for some time.
Advent is the only work in DN — WARDROBE that shows its figure in motion a full-body android mid-stride, the weight shifted forward, the arm swinging with the mechanical precision of a gait that has been engineered to the millimetre and worn into something that looks, from this angle, almost natural. The diagonal force lines that cross the composition are not decoration. They are the visual record of displacement the wake left by something moving through space with complete intention.
Di Nicolantonio draws the full figure here for the first time in Collection 02 head to foot, profile pure, every joint and panel of the android architecture rendered in the gestural, urgent line of felt-tip black. The shoulder disc is the only element of ornament in an otherwise entirely functional silhouette. This figure was not designed to be looked at. It was designed to arrive.
In the vocabulary of DN — WARDROBE, Advent proposes something none of the other works in the collection have yet addressed: movement as the ultimate garment. The way a figure occupies space in motion the length of the stride, the angle of the spine, the relationship between arm swing and forward momentum is a form of dressing as deliberate and as legible as any garment. Advent wears its movement like a coat.
Vesper announced the new season. Advent is what the new season looks like when it walks toward you.
