The transformation is complete. Or it was never going to stop.

Where Chrysalis showed the body in the early stages of becoming the garment beginning to live, the form beginning to shift Chrysalis II shows what happens when the process is allowed to continue without intervention. The organic forms have proliferated beyond the boundaries of clothing, beyond the boundaries of the figure itself, colonising the entire left field of the composition in great coiling spirals that carry their own internal logic, their own momentum, their own appetite for space.

And yet the face remains. Profile precise, eyes closed, expression carrying the particular serenity of someone who has surrendered control not out of defeat but out of understanding who has grasped that the transformation was never something happening to her, but something happening as her.

Di Nicolantonio draws here at the outermost edge of fashion illustration where the garment has become ecosystem, where the figure has become landscape, where the only thing that remains legible as human is the face, and even that seems to be listening to something the rest of the composition cannot yet hear.

Above the skull, twin forms rise like horns or antennae receivers for frequencies that have no name in any current taxonomy. She is not dressed for this world. She is dressed for whatever comes after it.
