Kyumi-1
About the work
The first one. Before the others.
Kyumi-1 is the founding figure of the Futuropia Robots series a domestic android conceived not for industry, not for warfare, but for presence. The body is fluid and organic, its armoured panels flowing like fabric rather than steel, its proportions calibrated for proximity to human life. The head is bowed not in malfunction, not in shutdown, but in something that reads, disconcertingly, like thought.
Di Nicolantonio draws Kyumi-1 in a moment of stillness that the machine was not designed to perform. No task is running. No instruction is pending. And yet the posture holds weighted, interior, self-contained. This is the question the entire Robots series will continue to ask: at what point does a system complex enough to wait become something more than a system?
Kyumi-1 does not answer. It simply stands there, head down, in the particular silence of something that may or may not be listening.
The origin point of the Futuropia Robots universe.
