Sovereign
DN — WARDROBE — Collection 01
About the work
He does not need to open his eyes to know you are there.
Sovereign is the most turbulent work in DN — WARDROBE — a male figure whose garment has ceased to be clothing and become atmosphere. The silhouette is composed at its core: a clean skull, a precise profile, a structured collar that rises to a sharp architectural point at the jaw. But from the shoulders outward, the composition erupts lines of fabric, mechanical detail, and gestural energy spiralling outward in every direction, as if the figure generates a force field simply by existing.
Di Nicolantonio draws here in the tradition of the great deconstructivist fashion houses Comme des Garçons, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto where the garment is not a container for the body but a proposition about it. Sovereign proposes that power, in the Futuropia universe, does not announce itself through display. It announces itself through stillness at the centre of a storm.
The eyes are closed. This is not passivity. It is the particular composure of someone who has already assessed every variable in the room and found none of them requiring attention. The tenue moves. The figure does not.
In DN — WARDROBE, Sovereign is the second male look — the counterpoint to Eclipse. Where Eclipse watches, Sovereign withdraws. Together they define the full range of masculine presence in the Futuropia universe.
