Spiraverde
About the work
The city does not end at its edges. It loops back into itself.
In Spiraverde, Di Nicolantonio draws the most urbanistically coherent vision in the Futuropia Cities series a masterplan in miniature, a complete urban quarter rendered in a single sustained act of prospective design. Fluid terraced levels spiral outward from a central organic tower, each platform a promenade lined with individually planted trees, each curve a deliberate invitation to slow movement through a city that has been designed for walking, for breathing, for stopping.
The central tower rises with the fluid momentum of water finding its way upward not a column, not a spire, but a continuous surface that gathers the spiralling energy of the base levels and releases it skyward. Around it, the city unfolds in concentric arcs, each level lower than the last, each one more open to the landscape that surrounds it. To the right, a more rectilinear volume anchors the composition to the ground the pragmatic infrastructure of a city that dreams organically but builds with discipline.
This is the Futuropia Cities work that an architect could present to a client. The proportions are credible, the circulation legible, the integration of nature systematic rather than decorative. Di Nicolantonio draws here not just as an artist but as a planner imagining a city that works as beautifully as it looks.
Spiraverde is the civic heart of Verdania. The place where everyone eventually arrives.
